National Service Scheme (N.S.S.)

About NSS
The National Service Scheme (NSS) is an Indian government-sponsored public service programme conducted by the Department of Youth Affairs and Sports of the Government of India. Popularly known as NSS, the scheme was launched in Gandhiji’s Centenary year, 1969. The main purpose of NSS is to provide an essential link between the campus and the surrounding community. The college offers opportunity to the students for personality development, self growth and work for betterment of society through NSS The college has four units (two for boys and two for girls), that function under the guidance of dedicated, dynamic programme officers and enthusiastically working students volunteers. The units function as per the broad guidelines of NSS cell of Kurukshetra University Kurukshetra. Our units have been in existence since 1969.

Motto

The motto of NSS is "NOT ME BUT YOU". This expresses the essence of democratic living and upholds the need of selfless service, appreciation of the other person’s point of view and also consideration for fellow human beings. It underlines that the welfare of an individual is ultimately dependent on the welfare of the society as a whole

NSS Programmes

National Service Scheme has two types of programmes – Regular Activities and Special Camping Programmes. Students enrolled as NSS Volunteers are expected to work in the scheme for a period of two years and also participate in Special Camping Programmes of 7 days.

Various programmes of NSS including Blood Donation Camps, Van Mahotsava, Environmental Awareness Projects and Literacy Programmes are also organized by NSS units.

Aims of NSS Programmes/Activities

NSS programme should provide a variety of learning experiences which must develop a sense of participation, service and achievement among the volunteers. The activities should aim at the following:-

  • To enable the students to understand the community in which they work;
  • To understand themselves in relation to their community ;
  • To identify the needs and problems of the community in the solution of which they can be involved;
  • To develop among themselves a sense of social and civic responsibility;
  • To apply their education in finding practical solution to individual and community problems ;
  • To develop competence required for group living and sharing responsibilities;
  • Gain skills in mobilising community participation ;
  • To acquire leadership qualities and democratic attitude ;
  • To develop capacity to meet emergencies and national disasters
  • To practice national integration.
