Biotechnology

The Department aims to generate trained manpower in the areas of Biotechnology, Microbiology and Genetic engineering and attempts to integrate research and teaching in Biotechnology. The department has emerged as a centre of excellence in imparting quality teaching and training at graduate and postgraduate levels and propagating teaching and research activities in the subject. The course also creates avenues for research and job opportunities for self-employment. Department provide wide exposure to the students by laboratory visits, training programs, exhibitions, seminars and workshop under the able guidance of qualified faculty members. The department has well qualified staff in their respective fields. Laboratories and classrooms are equipped with modern instruments and teaching aids. The department is actively engaged in Biotechnology based programmes for society under life science association and Biotechnology association. 

Objective of the Biotechnology Department

  1. To provide a good infrastructure and technologically skilled youth for research and teaching in the field of Biotechnology.
  2. To create curriculum to match international standards along with comprehensive training and inculcation of Human and Ethical values to meet the needs of industry and civil society.
  3. To create healthy, vibrant and sustainable society by involving the students in community service, health and hygiene awareness, sports, cultural activities and environmental protection through active participation in life science association activities.

History of the department

The Department of Biotechnology was established in July, 2001. The Department is engaged in teaching the subject of biotechnology to the students at under graduate level (B.Sc. Three-year degree course) and at post graduate level (M.Sc. two-year degree course). Both the courses are under self-finance scheme and affiliated to Guru Jambheshwar University, Hisar. The biotechnology department was conceptualized and founded under the headship of Dr. M.L. Gupta (Retd.) former Head of Biotechnology department, in July 2001 with an intention to develop basic infrastructure, manpower and promote research in frontier areas of biotechnology. In 2006, Dr. S.C Gupta (Retd.) acted as Head of Biotechnology tremendously helped in uplifting of department. Now since 2012 Dr. Vivek Srivastava is acting as Head of Biotechnology Department.
