The Department of Geographyis one of the oldest departments of Dayanand College, Hisar that is offering its services in field of geography since 1952. The department is engaged in teaching the students of B.A. three-year degree course and the M.Sc. two-year degree course affiliated to Guru Jambheshwar University of Science and Technology (GJU), Hisar. In undergraduate programme about 550 students and in the post-graduate programme 60 students undergo their studies in an academic year. The department has its well established and functioning Laboratories, smart classroom and rooms equipped with modern geographical instruments and teaching aides. There is highly specialized laboratory on Remote Sensing and Geographical Information System (GIS) in the department that offers wider opportunities to students specially PG programme to learn and enhance their skill. Department provides wide exposure to the students by organizing educational tours, field surveys, visits, extension lectures, exhibitions, quiz contests, debates and workshops under the able guidance of qualified faculty members. 

Vision

  • To have a MOU with digital map making Institute/Company for better placement of students
  • Explore field visits for each and every paper (UG & PG)
  • Engage PG students in a disaster management mock drill organized by the NIDM.

Mission

  • Practical Learning: Owing to dealingwith practical subject,Department follow the wording “Know Geography through Visits”. So, various field visits for students are organized by the department in mountainous, plains and desert areas. They are interacted in exhibition by displaying instruments and taught their use in survey in practical classes.
  • Capacity Building Activity: Capacity building augments a student durable and enduring manner such that they carry the seeds of such learning beyond the classroom, throughout the life as it encompasses and acts as a bridge between learnt knowledge and real word.
  • Peer Learning Activity: Peer learning is the process of students learning with and from each other. This is usually facilitated through teaching and learning activities such as student–led workshops, department association, study groups, peer-to-peer learning partnerships, and group work.
  • Remedial Classes: The goal of remedial education is to provide extra assistance to students who, for whatever reason, have fallen behind the rest of the class in areas such as language or mathematics.
  • Counselling: The faculty members remain ready to provide proper guidance and material to students who are preparing competitive exams. The PG students are guided for National Eligibility Test (NET), Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) and pursuing higher education.

Objective

  • The Objective of department is to provide a friendly environment to ensure the maximum involvement of students in teaching-learning process and enhance their creativities and capabilities.
